Winter Changed into Spring

But despite the lower-than-expected snowfall, the skiing was still pretty incredible – especially since our calendars say it’s spring.
Saturday was one of those “don’t like the weather? wait five minutes” kind of days. There were clouds and rain and snow and sunshine all before 11am. Saturday evening the MRG Shareholders gathered together for their annual meeting and voted in their new board members (click here for the results). And then Sunday, winter changed into spring… at least temporarily.
Even if it never got close to 50 degrees, the skies were bluebird and the sun was shining bright. The One Piece Brigade was out and about, everyone was ready for a fun day on the hill and the snow was corning up in a timely fashion. It looked like all systems were GO for the Peterson Parachute Ski Race, but as it turned out, things got a little “blown out” and the persistent wintery winds only allowed for two jumps. But helicopter rides stayed open to the public and went on all day. Yours truly was totally psyched for another knee-friendly adrenaline rush and got out the “good camera” to document the whole ride! Check out the Facebook album.
This just in from the We Want Spring Department: GREAT NEWS! Not only are tickets now at the new Spring Rate of $39/day, 7 days a week, but the Mountain Minds got together and are planning to remain open as usual right through the 10th! [And there was much rejoicing!] Plans beyond that are “optimistic, but weather and traffic dependent,” which basically means that the plan is to at least try to open for the following weekend. With the right weather and perhaps a little peer pressure* the mountain could stay open midweek but there are zero promises.
Also, please thank your friendly MRG employees when you get a chance! They are an integral part of the Mad River Glen experience and they have worked their tails of this season! Check out our super fun 2011 Employee Video below!
Finally – as things wind down at MRG, so will the Stark’s Pub blogging. We will continue to post as long as the mountain is open but after that posts will become more sporadic and event-related. If you want to stay up to speed on all the cool “off-season” events like SIPtemberfest, you can subscribe to our blog and get it conveniently emailed right to your inbox! Scroll to the top and look for “Stark’s Pub in your Inbox” and subscribe today!
*Peer Pressure in the form of Facebook comments or Tweets about how much you want us to stay open midweek will help make “demand” clearer. Showing up midweek couldn’t hurt either!
