RIP Ryan Hawks

It is with teary eyes and a very heavy heart that I share this news with you all:

Vermonter, freeskiier, friend, Ryan Hawks passed away on Tuesday morning from injuries sustained in a crash during a competition in Kirkwood, California on Sunday. He was 25.

Ryan, a member of the Green Mountain Freeride team, was a gifted skier and one of the most positive people I’ve ever met. His enthusiasm and passion for skiing was as clear as the bond he had with his friends. Always pointing out how the glass is half full, Ryan had a way of making everyone around him happier with simply a flash of his smile.

His recent visit back to Mad River Glen came with a lot of snow which Ryan certainly took advantage of. You can see some of his tree-jibbing prowess and his smooth skiing style in the videos (below) filmed during his stay.

Our hearts go out to his parents Peter and Jackie and his sister Alicia, as well as all of his friends and family. Ryan was and will continue to be a huge inspiration to all of us. We miss you Ryan. Rest In Peace.

    Farewell to the mountains, high-cover’d with snow,
    Farewell to the straths and green vallies below;
    Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods,
    Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.
    Farewell Ryan.

    Great guy. As it was once said by a guide in St.Anton he had “Happy Skier’s Feet”. We will miss you.
